New Zealand Green Mussels are plump and juicy with a tender texture. They have a sweet and delicate flavor. The meat color varies from apricot (female) to cream (male), but has no effect on taste. Available frozen year-round.

Blue/Black Mussels can be from many different locations, with the most common being Prince Edward Island (PEI). PEI mussels have tender, plump, and sweet meats. Available frozen year-round and typically fresh year-round.

Cooking Tips

For live mussels, steam in water, wine or seasoned cream broth. Frozen mussels have been partially cooked, so they require short cooking times. Mussel meat is a great addition to pasta sauces or traditional cioppinos. Both mussel varieties can be used interchangeably.
