Flavor Profile
Steamer Clams are plump, softshell clams native to the Northeast. The terms Steamers, Softshells and even Ipswich clams are commonly used interchangeably to describe these delicate clams.
Steamers have a brittle exterior shell and elongated in shape. Out of water they are naturally open with their ‘arm’ appendage out (compared to closed little necks).
Cooking Tips & Recipes
Cook according to their name; lightly steam in salt water.
Don’t forget to rinse the clams of all grit before cooking!
